Terms of Service
1. Who this agreement is between
These Terms are between Jacked Trade LLC, the company that provides SiftDrive ("we", "us"), and you, the person or business using it ("you"). SiftDrive is a brand name, not a separate legal entity — your agreement is with Jacked Trade LLC, a limited liability company organized under the laws of Delaware.
If you are accepting on behalf of a business, you confirm you are authorized to bind it.
2. What SiftDrive does
SiftDrive has two halves. An agent runs on your own computer: it reads the drives you point it at, builds a catalogue of what is on them, identifies duplicate files, and — only when you tell it to — moves duplicates into a quarantine folder on the same drive. A web service stores that catalogue against your account so you can see every drive you have scanned, including ones that are not plugged in.
We also offer migration functions that move data between services you authorize us to access, such as an Airtable workspace or a Dropbox account, into a destination you nominate.
3. What leaves your computer, and what does not
The contents of your files are never sent to us. The agent sends a catalogue: file names, paths, sizes, timestamps, content fingerprints (hashes), file types and counts. It does not read a file's contents to the network, and there is no feature that uploads, stores, or backs up your files.
A content fingerprint is a one-way hash. It lets us tell that two files are identical without holding either of them. It cannot be turned back into the file.
File names and folder paths can themselves be revealing. If that matters for a particular drive, scan it without linking the agent to an account — the local report works either way.
This section does not apply to the migration functions, which by their nature move your actual data. Section 8 covers those.
4. What happens when you run a cleanup — read this section
SiftDrive does not delete files. A cleanup moves duplicates into a folder named _SiftDrive_Quarantine on the same drive, preserving their original paths inside it. Nothing is removed from your disk by us, at any point. Emptying that folder is your own separate act.
Every move is journalled before it happens. The agent writes down what it intends to do, flushes that record to disk, and only then moves the file — so a cleanup interrupted by a crash, a power cut or an unplugged cable can still be reversed. Running siftdrive undo puts everything back.
We re-check each file immediately before moving it and skip anything that changed since the plan was made. We refuse to move files out of locations where duplication is structural rather than waste — application bundles, system directories, and similar paths — because reclaiming a few megabytes by breaking installed software is not a trade anyone asked for.
You still need backups. Those protections are real and they are not a substitute for a backup. Storage hardware fails, filesystems corrupt, and software has bugs — including ours. Do not run a cleanup on the only copy of anything you cannot lose. If you have no backup of a drive, make one first.
You choose what runs. The scan and the report change nothing; a cleanup happens only when you start one.
5. What the duplicate report does and does not promise
Duplicates are matched by comparing file contents, not names or sizes, and matches are verified rather than guessed.
Reclaimable space is sometimes an upper bound, and we say so when it is. On filesystems that support copy-on-write clones (including APFS on modern Macs), two identical files may already share the same storage, so removing one frees nothing. There is no reliable way for any software to determine this after the fact. Where that applies, the report says space is recoverable "at most" rather than stating a figure we cannot stand behind. Where it does not apply — most external drives, memory cards and USB sticks — the figure is exact.
Hard links are counted as one file, because that is what they are.
6. Your account
Sign-in is by emailed link, so control of your email inbox is control of your account. Keep it secure.
Linking a computer issues that computer a token. Anyone with access to that computer can use it to sync catalogues to your account. You can unlink a computer at any time from your dashboard, which immediately invalidates its token.
You are responsible for having the right to scan, catalogue and reorganise the data you point SiftDrive at.
7. Subscriptions, limits and payment
Scanning and the duplicate report are free, without limit, on every plan including the free one. Paid plans set how many drives we keep a catalogue of, and how much migration work you can run in a billing period.
Some limits are hard caps: exceeding one requires a larger plan and is never charged for automatically. Others are allowances with overage: on a paid plan, work past the allowance is charged at the published rate for that unit. We tell you what a job will cost before it runs, and you accept the quote before any work begins.
Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time and keep access to the end of the period you have paid for. We do not pro-rate partial periods.
If a payment fails, we keep your account working for a short grace period and tell you. After that, new work pauses; your catalogues and your data are not deleted.
8. Migration functions and the data you authorize us to access
When you connect a source such as Airtable or Dropbox, you give us access to read data from it. We use that access only to perform the migration you asked for, and for no other purpose.
Each job runs in its own workspace, which can be handed to you or destroyed as one unit. When the job is done and you have confirmed the result, we delete the working copy on request and by default within 30 days.
For these functions we act as a processor on your instructions. If you are subject to data-protection law that requires processing terms, the Data Processing Addendum below forms part of this agreement.
A managed job may involve a person here running the phases by hand rather than a machine running them unattended. Where that is the case we say so before you accept the quote.
9. What we do not promise
The Service is provided as-is. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will identify every duplicate on a drive.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost data, lost files, or the cost of recovering them. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before it arose. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, and where that is so, this section applies only as far as it may.
Nothing here limits liability for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, you keep your statutory rights, and nothing in these Terms takes them away.
10. Ending it
You can stop using SiftDrive and delete your account at any time. Deleting your account removes your catalogues and your personal information from our systems.
We retain a de-identified record of paid transactions — what was authorized and when, with no personal identifiers attached — because a billing record has to outlive the account it belonged to for anyone to be able to answer a disputed charge. This is the ordinary treatment of transaction records.
Uninstalling the agent does not undo a cleanup. Your quarantine folders stay where they are, on your drives, under your control.
We may suspend or end an account that is being used unlawfully or in a way that endangers the service for others.
11. Changes, law and contact
We may update these Terms. When a change is material we will bump the version and ask you to accept the new one before you carry on using the Service — that is why acceptance is recorded against a version.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
